Dear Editor, Metformin is a hypoglycaemic drug of the class biguanides used as the first-line treatment for type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). The drug acts by inhibiting hepatic gluconeogenesis, decreasing intestinal absorption of glucose and circulating insulin.
